Chatterbox Analytics helps financialQ to understand the stock markets

We’re happy to announce the partnership of financialQ with Chatterbox Analytics in the area of automatic sentiment detection for stock market news data. You can check out how well the algorithm is doing as we implemented a first version this weekend: www.financialQ.com

Chatterbox is a spin out company from the Interaction, Media & Communication group at Queen Mary University of London. They specialized in high grade analytics to large quantities of social data in order to extract the core users who drive brand conversation and opinion. www.cbanalytics.co.uk

startupticker.ch: A Swiss start-up helps investors to understand stock markets

FinancialQ uses sophisticated semantic learning algorithms and the wisdom of the crowd to show investors how new information impacts stock prices. At the moment the young company is looking for beta tester for its service.

Today, investors have a lot of tools at their disposal to see how the price of a stock is changing. What is missing is a tool which helps investors to understand why a price is changing. FinancialQ wants to provide exactly this missing tool. The vision of the founders is to make the Stock Markets more transparent and understandable.

The underlying principle is simple: the movement of prices in stock markets is a reflection of how investors judge new information. In financialQ new information is found by algorithms searching the internet for stock relevant information. A piece of information is mapped to a stock if it is found to have a potential impact on it. The mapped information is presented to the financialQ community in real time. The community rates and discusses new information. On the basis of the new information and the rating of this information by investors, a community sentiment can be calculated for each stock/industry/country/market etc. The sentiment seems to be a quite good indicator for future stock price changes.

For a monthly fee, finanicalQ plans to let other applications (tools for investment manager, relationship managers or hedge fund managers as well as e-banking and online trading tools) integrate this valuable information on community sentiment and relevant new information.

At the moment financialQ is in beta-phase and looking for beta testers. Beta access can be requested at www.financialQ.comUsers can set up a portfolio with stocks they are interested in and see what information is impacting the price of their stocks.

New feature on financialQ: on the stock charts you can see the news volume for each day. By analyzing the charts you’ll see an interesting correlation of days with high volume of news and price shifts on the next days (see images). Imagine if a community of investors would discuss and rate the impact of the news - you could understand how new information drive stock prices.

The New Front End of Innovation is Big Data

A decade ago, technology futurists were forecasting the consumerization of IT. A decade later, mobile smartphones – including the advent of the mobile app – tablets and social web 2.0 practices were the collective vessel to ultimately bring this consumerization full circle. It has occured as predicted. The user experience and how we interface technology veered sharply during this period and disruption commenced. Because of this disruption, innovators focused heavily on front-end processes that could now involve virtual communities of co-creators and collaborators. Ideation services, rapid prototyping, a cult-like focus on UI/UX and crowdsourcing techniques all flourished allowing enterprises and individuals to front-load the development life-cycle and put a honus on the front end of innovation. This is all about to change yet again. Only this time, the new front end of innovation is a bit tougher to corral, manipulate and monetize. This time, the new front end of innovation is Big Data.
